Error with initial coldstart of PowerExchange Logger

    Burgans Active Member

We are running PowerExchange Logger on a remote server that connects to an Oracle database server (all running on Linux).  I have the Listener running on the Oracle DB server and the Listener running on the Logger server.  When I coldstart the Logger, I get the below error:

I saw an article in the Knowledge base saying the archivelogs need to be mounted on an NFS server, but the entire reason when put the Listener on the DB server is to avoid having to us NFS mounts.

*nix FS returns an errno=2 when one of two conditions is true:

            1) File or directory doesn't exist

            2) Login doesn't have permissions to access the file or directory.

Note that Online and Archived REDO log files are normally owned by the Oracle OS level login, with no permissions for any other login to even read them.

If PWX is not running under the Oracle OS login, then you need to do something to give access to the login that is running PWX.

Also note that Oracle is constantly creating new REDO/Archive, so just changing permissions on the existing files only works until PWX needs to read a newly created one, when it will again fail with an errno=2 from the FS.

What you can do: Use *nix's SETFACL to set permissions on the REDO and Archive Directories to allow the login running PWX to have access to the existing files, and to any new ones created in those directories.

KB that talks about how to do that:

How To: Use setfacl to allow PWX to read REDO/Archive on disk
