Just to be clear are you referring to BDQ (Big Data Quality) and DEQ (Data Engineering quality) or are you referring to IDQ (Informatica Data Qaulity). I just want to be sure as thou the names are very similar they operate in much different fashions.
As per what i understand, when we say IDQ-we are considering both, the Developer and the Analyst tool.
We are planning to upgrade IDQ from 10.2 to 10.4, and that is where i wanted to know about the list of topics where we would need support from Informatica.
Informatica's Data Quality does absolutely involve both the developer and analyst tool.
The issue is IDQ and BDQ/DEQ are technically two separate products each with different considerations to take into account.
In your question you reference both products. Yes they may share the same interface but they have very different requirements.
For example IDQ is native based processing so we need to ensure the current domain server OS is compatible with 10.4. You also need to verify that the source and targets systems are still supported by 10.4 or if they need to be upgraded.
For DEQ you need to validate the distribution of hadoop/spark you are using. You need to validate if you need to move to JDBC type 4 drivers or type 2. You need to validate the linux OS verision.....
Just a same example but you see the requirements are very different.
I am looking for items or points which are to be considered for support from Informatica when upgrding the Informatica Data Quality from 10.2 (BDM) to IDQ 10.4 (Data Engineering) version.
I'd suggest using the Upgrade-Kit to plan your upgrade and see what questions you have.
Thank you for helping me with the difference, i have always been confused as to how they were different, i still need to understand the difference in detail to be honest. But for starters that was helpful info.
So, if we are only concerned about the IDQ upgrade from 10.2 to 10.4, where all would we need the product support given that we have IDQ on linux.
Thank you for the link.
I had a look, what i understand from the content is that it is about the improvements and additional features in 10.4 as compared to 10.2
I should have framed by question better.
We are looking for suggestions for when we are upgrading IDQ, where would we be needing the product support (IPS)?
Example: Issues identified when upgrading, patches to be applied in case a product bug is encountered, compatibility issues etc.
Are there other categories where we would need the Informatica support for successful upgrade?
It completely depends on the complexity of your environment. A 1 node domain where the upgrade will take place without any server migration or database change should be straight forward.
If however you plan to migrate to a new server or change database server etc. the complexity increases. For detailed steps check the Upgrade Guide - Preface
Plan your upgrade with all steps and document any changes like the examples above. Then if you have specific questions you can raise a support case. Based on that IPS may be recommended but even if working with them, the first step will be documenting all the changes you wish to implement so a worthwhile first step whatever path you choose.
