Informatica PowerCenter 10.1.0 and Oracle 12cR2

    aveste New Member

      Hi All,

I have to install Informatica 10.1.0 on Linux 64

      1. Is Oracle 12cR2 supported to Create Informatica Repository and Domain ?

      2. Is Oracle 12cR2 supported as Source/Target Database?

      Thank you

      Regards

      Stefano

Using the search function of the INFA Network reveals (among others) this post which should answer your question satisfactorily (though probably not the way you would like the answer ):

             Re: PowerCenter 10.2 doesn't support Oracle 12cR2 for Domain-Database?

It MAY be that in the meantime the Product Availability Matrix for 10.1 has been upgraded to include 12cR2, but that's not very likely (though not impossible), so please check the PAM yourself.

          Regards,

          Nico

            Hello,

Informatica 10.1.0 does not support Oracle 12cR2. It is supported starting Informatica 10.2.0 HF1.

            Regards,

            Rajan

Hi, thank you for your time.

So, Oracle 12cR2 is not supported as Domain and Repository Database.

I found discussion where people said that 12cR2 is certified as source/target database since PC 9.6.1 HF2

but I couldn't find any document to support this.

Could you please help me to clarify if 12cR2 can be used as source and target database with Informatica PowerCenter 10.1.0?

              Thank you

              regards

              Stefano

That's easy: just take a close look at the Product Availability Matrix for your version (an Excel file, if you don't have it, request it from Informatica Global Customer Support). This Excel file contains many tabs, one of them is "PowerExchange Relational" or something similar; it lists which DB versions are supported by Informatica.

                Regards,

                Nico

                  Hi Nico,

thank you to point me in the correct direction.

So, definitely Oracle 12cR2 is not supported with Informatica 10.1.0.

Any chance to have it supported in the near future?

                  Thank you

                  Regards

Unfortunately the answer most likely is no. If Informatica didn't take the effort to certify 10.1 with Oracle 12cR2 by now, chances are not high (to say at least) that this certification will be done at all.

And from Informatica's point of view I can understand it: 10.1 is certified with 12cR1, and 12cR2 is certified with 10.2 HF1. So where's the need for Informatica to repeat the certification tasks with 10.1? Informatica recommends its customers to upgrade as early as possible, and such an upgrade would mean you can use 12cR2 without hassle. So why bother doing all that extra work with 10.1, a version which is a tad "old" by now.

Nevertheless this is no authoritative answer. You might want to open a service request at Informatica Global Customer Support (GCS) to get an authoritative reply.

                    Regards,

                    Nico

PowerCenter supports Oracle 12 as a repository depending on the configuration for the logon parameters regardless if it is a 12.1 or 12.2. The only difference is the default configuration in both database versions regarding logon password encryption parameters. Therefor Oracle 12.1, Oracle 12.2 and probably Oracle 11 are not fully compatible as a repository database for PowerCenter 10.1.1 depending on the logon parameters you chose.

However Informatica refuses to support the ORA12R2 configuration, wich is unfortunate since the delayed Informatica support for Oracle 12.2 in Q3 2018 combined with the end of the Premier Support of Oracle 12.1 also in Q3 2018 made an orderly update plan for your customers extremely unlikely.
