a screen shot of that help section and some further explanation of what exactly you are clicking/using within the software might be of help here to provide any answer.
The Generate product function is available from the Item context-sensitive menu
When you select an item, right-click, and select Generate product, a new Product is created, containing:
- a system generated Product No.
- status = 01 New
- the selected item is an Item of the Product.
All other fields are empty.
The Help text:
In the Creating Products topic, the last bullet indicates that the product is created base on the item data. Does this mean that data fields from the item can be copied to the product, when a product is created using this Generate product function?
Thanks for your time Stefan; my apologies for the initial vague question.
Was there ever a reply to this? I just red this post this morning, and I do not have the right click - generate product from item in the contextual menu.

as far as I am aware it will not copy vvalues from item to product level but is meant to read as creation of a Product in context of the Item so that it already holds all necessary relationships to connect the two.
@Jonathan, not sure why you don't see the entry. Rights constraint?!
Late reply Stefan, yes we had security blocking that. All cleared now.
