Yes. You can setup a grid on any node (regardless of it being a gateway or a worker) as long as it has the clustered filesystem across each node's server to support the integration services that will use the grid.
You can technically also have 1 node in a grid but would give you no benefit obviously.

Yes, technically we can have only 1 node on a grid but then its not grid anyone.
The Master Gateway Node is required for your domain to be up and running. If you have only Worker Node running, the request will not be able to reach the domain and it is of no use.
Any Number of Nodes can be added as master Gateway Node and it will provide high availability even when one of the node is up and running.
In that case, the Repository service will be running on Master Gateway Node (unless, there is a manual shutdown of RS Process on that particular Node) and others will be as a stand-by. IS can be running on all Nodes providing a Load Balanced scenario.
