As per my knowledge, Oracle 12c is compatible starting with Informatica 9.6. Will have to see what the experts say about the workaround.
Thanks Dileep for your valuable comments!!
So in your view even Informatica 9.5 is installed on 11g (i.e. repository database is in 11g). Then also infomatica can't connect to as source and target which is in Oracle 12c?
Can we share this understanding with our client ?
Any kind of help is appreciable.
As of my understanding we should distinguish between sourcing / targeting Oracle 12c and using 12c as a repository database:
As pointed out by Dileep support for repositories starts with 9.6. However, as long as you're working with an Oracle 11g client installation on the Informatica server, you should be fine sourcing and/or targeting and/or looking up data from a 12c database.
If my understanding is wrong, could please someone from GCS correct me here?
If Oracle 11g client is compatible with Oracle 12c database ,then Oracle 12c as source / target in a mapping should be work,as this is dependent on Native and ODBC driver installed on Informatica server box.
We have similar scenario wrt Teradata as Source and Target. We got a confirmation from Data vendor regarding backward compatibility (i.e. Old version used to connect to Latest version Database server)
I would recommend , some regression testing here ,just to make sure..data and functionality(SQL Overrides) are working fine.
Nico and Adil are correct in their analysis. As 9.5.0 PAM specifies 11gR2, you can install this client on Informatica server to connect to 12g source/target as long as your database vendor supports this 11gR2 client ->12c server combination.
Also note that any issues isolated to database specific, you need to contact Oracle vendor.
Thanks everyone for the useful response.
