There is no Specific Read-Only Mode.

        Ways to Control Read-only.

On the Folder User should only have Read access which controls the user to Read only mode.

If you have Versioning enabled default is Read-only Mode and you need to check-out incase if you want to modify.

If Versioning is not enabled and user has Write access default mode is in Write mode and any other users that open the same object will have Read-only Mode.

          Thanks for the reply.

My doubt is something like this ---- I opened a mapping which X person did and if X person also opens the mapping again and he does the changes then - will he be notified that  someone else opened the mapping and cannot save changes or something like that.

Versionining not enabled - so have complete access to edit mapping by default. Please let me know your ip/s.

It is True, when X opens a mapping PowerCenter will lock the Mapping in backend and any other person try to open or Edit it will throw and error until X physically closes or logs out.

If Versioning is not enabled and user has Write access default mode is in Write mode and any other users that open the same object will have Read-only Mode.

--Regarding this statement, the versioning is not enabled. And no other user locked the mapping. Still the user is getting message as Mapping is read only. Do you have any input. User have all access, read/write /execute.

Also when i a deleting the same user lock, it is giving error as:

              [REP_57067] Bad connection ID.

We have to distinguish two cases in case of a repository without version control enabled.

If two users want to access one mapping at the same time, only one can access it and change it, the other one will get an error message when opening the mapping that this mapping is in use by another user.

If two users (both with Write permission on this folder) try to access the same mapping one after the other, then the first user can change the mapping and save and close it, afterwards the second user can access and change it and save and close, and then the first user (or, in fact, any user with Write permission on that folder) will - when opening the mapping - get the status as changed by the second user.

A variant of this second case is if the first user keeps the mapping open in the Mapping Designer and keeps the Designer running for a long time. While the first user keeps the Designer tool running and leaves this mapping open in the Mapping Designer, no one else can access the mapping and write to it. No one. Not even the Administrator.

There's no way to change this behaviour, this is hard-coded into the Designer. And - from a technical point of view - it makes total sense.

Does this answer your question about the behaviour of the Designer?

                Regards,

                Nico

When deleting user lock and getting message "[REP_57067] Bad connection ID." This can be at times caused by network issues.

Are you able to ping telnet from powercenter host to database fine? If so, can try recycling repository service to see if helps not being able to delete the user lock.

                  Regards,

                  Melvin

When you get a error like:

                    [REP_57067] Bad connection ID.

The issue definitely seemed like it was caused by network issues.

In future occurrences, at the time where you see this issue from the same machine try doing a ping or telnet to the Powercenter server host machine and database host and see if that connects successfully

                    Hope this helps.

                    Thanks,
