i9pi

Version 3

    Introduction

This tool verifies the available memory and disk space and environment variable settings. It also determines the database system settings to verify whether the database is configured correctly for the domain configuration repository. You can run the Pre-Installation System Check (i9pi) tool on Windows or UNIX.

    Purpose

Use the Pre-Installation System Check (i9pi) tool to determine whether the machine where you install the Informatica services meets the minimum system requirements.

    System Requirements

    • On UNIX, this tool requires an X Window server to run in graphical mode. If the tool cannot access an X Window server, it runs in console mode.
    • If you store the domain configuration repository in an Oracle database, this tool requires the Oracle database user to have the select_catalog_role privilege.

    How to Install

    1. Download and extract the Pre-Installation System Check tool files to a temporary directory on the machine where you plan to install Informatica.
    2. Close all applications.
    3. Go to root of the directory that contains the extracted files.
    4. To begin the system check on Windows, find and run the i9Pi.exe file.
    5. To begin the installation on UNIX, find and run the i9Pi.bin file.|
The Pre-Installation System Check tool starts in graphical mode. On UNIX, it starts in console mode if an X Window server is not available.
    6. In the Introduction window, click Next.
    7. In the System and Database Information window, enter the following information
      • Drive to check: System drive on which you plan to install Informatica. This is the drive on which the tool runs the system check.
      • Informatica starting port number:Starting port number of the range of port numbers to use for the Informatica domain. The Informatica domain requires five ports. The Pre-Installation System Check tool verifies that the starting port number and four subsequent port numbers are available. For example, you enter 6005. The tool verifies that the port numbers 6005 through 6009 are available to use for the Informatica domain.
      • Database type: Database for the domain configuration repository. Select Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or IBM DB2.
      • Database hostname: Name of the machine that hosts the database server.
      • Database port number: Port number for the database server.
      • Database service name: Service name for Oracle and IBM DB2 databases or database name for Microsoft SQL Server.
      • Database user ID: Database user account for the domain configuration repository. The Pre-Installation System Check tool uses this user account to connect to the database and check the configuration.
      • User password: Password for the database user account.
    8. Click Check.

The Pre-Installation System Check tool checks the settings of the hard drive, the availability of the ports, and the configuration of the database. The process can take a few minutes. After the system check is complete, the tool displays the results of the check.
    9. In the System Check Report window, review the results of the system check.
    10. If a test fails, correct the settings before you install Informatica. You might need to consult with a system administrator or a database administrator to correct the settings.
    11. Click Done.

The system check results are also stored in the summary report files created in the directory where you extracted the Pre-Installation System Check tool files.

After the Pre-Installation System Check tool runs, it generates a system check report in HTML and text format. The report files are stored in the directory where you extract the Pre-Installation System Check tool files:

    • HTML format: <i9Pi Directory>/i9Pi/i9Pi_summary.html
    • i9Pi Directory>/i9Pi_summary.log

The contents of the report files are the same as the results displayed on the System Check Report window of the Pre-Installation System Check tool.
