Do-It-Yourself Guide to Process Integration and Automation

Version 7

The success of an enterprise depends highly on its ability to digitally transform its business processes. Supporting digital transformation initiatives is a challenging and daunting task. The hybrid nature of the applications we use on premises and in the Cloud accentuates the problem as business processes get distributed across applications. According to Gartner successful digital transformation initiatives are driven not only by integration and a sound API strategy but also one that addresses the challenges of supporting business processes that span applications wherever they are. Competitive advantage, agility and the ability to change, and improved efficiencies are primary goals of these initiatives.

A sound strategy must tackle the reality that many, if not increasingly most, business processes must support the distributed nature of best of breed applications we buy or subscribed to today. This calls for a variety of integration capabilities, largely driven via APIs, but most importantly one that allow process and business rules to be externalized outside of applications. In doing so incremental improvements in processes and business rules can be more readily made.

Informatica customers today make use of its process automation capabilities to address these needs by providing with the means to automate these business processes, expose these as APIs, and monitor their execution.

We want to show you how this can be achieved with this guide. It describes how a bank might improve its loan origination process. Here’s the scenario:

ABC bank wants to follow-up with the property buyer after certain loan prerequisites are met:

    1. The loan has been registered with the mortgage company

    2. The property meets required valuation conditions

To ensure these conditions are met, ABC bank uses a loan origination system of record (Salesforce in this example) where loan information is maintained and a third-party application (Zillow in this case) to determine a property’s value.

Here is a video preview of what you would be implementing in this workshop

Attached step-by-step document will guide you through the implementation steps. You can either perform these yourself or simply review the guide to get a feel how you would do so to implement the process and expose the API used to initiate it.

To give you a head-start we have also attached the project as a sample. Simply download it, import it and review the design to get you going fast.
